2016 Stone Corral Vineyard Pinot Noir

2016 Stone Corral Vineyard Pinot Noir

The Stone Corral Vineyard is a 28 acre site located in the south western part of the Edna Valley, just four miles from the ocean, that was planted entirely to pinot noir in 2001. The sandy clay loam soils of the vineyard produce elegant wines with plush texture and dark color. The vineyard is unique in that it is shared with the Kynsi Winery and Stephen Ross Wine Cellars and so that in each vintage, three distinct bottlings are produced.

Tasting Notes
The 2016 vintage of Stone Corral Vineyard Pinot Noir offers aromas of raspberry, wax, and orange peel. The palate is dense with juicy notes of blueberry and raspberry. Hints of cedar and lilac follow in the finish. Try pairing this Pinot Noir with lamb kabobs or glazed pork tenderloin.
Vineyard Notes
The 2016 growing season was one of the very best in the 30 year history of Talley Vineyards. After four years of severe drought, El Niño conditions brought the most rainfall to the region since 2011. After a cool and windy spring, temperatures throughout the season were moderate, especially during the critical summer months when veraison and ripening occurred. The absence of severe heat for any extended period during the harvest season meant that the grapes were harvested at a moderate pace at optimal ripeness. Yields in the vineyard were consistent with five year averages and the resulting wines reflect the concentration, balance and elegance that is the hallmark of the confluence of a perfect growing season and a wine growing approach committed to capturing all the potential of the San Luis Obispo Coast region.

June 2019: I finally drank the 2010 vintage for my 65th birthday. This Pinot is fantastic!! Deep brooding black cherry with interesting herbal flavors mingling between the lush fruit. All other Pinots should use this Pinot as a reference for taste and quality. My in-laws live near Talley so I will visit and buy a newer vintage of this wine. Yes expensive, but who needs money when you have great wine?
