The signature white wine of Talley Vineyards, the Estate Chardonnay represents a pure expression of the calcareous soils and cool maritime climate of the Arroyo Grande Valley produced in a classic old world style, incorporating barrel fermentation and aging.This bottling dates to the inaugural vintage of 1986 and was the first Chardonnay produced in the Arroyo Grande Valley.

Light gold in appearance, the 2016 Estate Chardonnay offers aromas of freshly churned butter with a hint of rose petal.  On the palate, notes of honey-roasted peanuts lead to a rich and toasty finish.  Enjoy this Chardonnay with pad thai or chicken piccata in a caper and butter sauce.

The 2016 growing season was one of the very best in the 30 year history of Talley Vineyards. After four years of severe drought, El Niño conditions brought the most rainfall to the region since 2011. After a cool and windy spring, temperatures throughout the season were moderate, especially during the critical summer months when veraison and ripening occurred. The absence of severe heat for any extended period during the harvest season meant that the grapes were harvested at a moderate pace at optimal ripeness. Yields in the vineyard were consistent with five year averages and the resulting wines reflect the concentration, balance and elegance that is the hallmark of the confluence of a perfect growing season and a wine growing approach committed to capturing all the potential of the San Luis Obispo Coast region.

This wine bested all the other chardonnays I poured blind in my wine and spirits of the world class at Mission College in Santa Clara. It combines the best of the new and old world styles of chardonnay. There is richness from the ripe fruit and time in oak but still finishes with great left from fresh acidity. A complex and balanced chardonnay from one of the central coasts best producers.

A nice buttery, well balanced chardonnay. You get the richness of the fruit right away, but it's not overpowering and the finish is as smooth as a baby's bottom! A nice acidity at the end that rounds out the butteriness and leaves no bitter aftertaste. The flavor is great right out of the bottle and just gets better as you let it air.

April in Seattle --- and yes, there is a light rain. I look out and see bright yellow daffodils clustered under a big fir. For those of you who are attentive you will know that every year at this time I sit on my front porch absorbing the ambiance of a freshly cut lawn while I await the truck that brings my wine. Talley Vineyards Chardonnay. It's become a tradition. Kathy would say an obsession. This year I doubled up on the single vineyard Chardonnays and threw in a half case of the 2016 Talley Vineyards Estate Chardonnay, one of which I opened immediately. The bottles were still cool when they were delivered. I sliced an apple into bite sized chips and grabbed a handful of dry roasted peanuts. Just a hunch. I returned to the front porch, wine in hand. Let the ritual begin: I started with a two ounce pour in a large wine glass which assured me of plenty of room to swish and swirl. Paler than I had imagined, but with a delightful aroma of green melon. My first impression was a good one. A mere suggestion of oak, but Chardonnay at its finest. Slightly acidic, with complexity that I have come to appreciate from Talley. My apple and peanuts idea was fun and I enjoyed that, but in the end I set them aside, poured a full six ounce pour and savored this wine -- and just let the misty rain surround me. Chardonnay, nicely done, again. Some rituals are worth preserving.

I had 3 bottles shipped to Florida, where we leave on a cruise with our family this week. It is a lovely, light wine with all sorts of aromatic fragrance. I even called the hotel to be sure they don't leave my wine on a loading dock (they didn't)! Looking forward to sipping a glass or 3 in the Caribbean!!! Thank you Talley!

Big fan of Talley Chards. Couldn't wait to get into this bottle and was not disappointed. Great for an afternoon glass or with dinner.
