Talley Vineyards

2014 Talley Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir

2014 Talley Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir

The 2014 vintage of Estate Pinot Noir is bright crimson in appearance and expressive of the distinctive character of the Arroyo Grande Valley which produces well structured pinot noir. Mineral notes in the aroma are complemented by hints of cranberry chutney and a faint trace of cigar box. On the palate, this elegant and well balanced pinot noir displays notes of bright raspberry and a touch of black pepper. With refreshing acidity and great structure, this wine is ready to enjoy now but will age gracefully over the next decade. Pair the 2014 Estate Pinot Noir with grilled quail or smoked salmon crostini.

Professional Reviews

Vinous, September, 2016 - Brilliant ruby-red. Highly fragrant, spice-accented aromas of red and dark berry preserves and floral pastilles; a hint of vanilla emerges with air. Expansive raspberry and cherry-cola flavors are energized and lifted by juicy acidity and a late jolt of white pepper. Packs a solid punch but comes off lithe, finishing with excellent focus, well-knit tannins and strong persistence.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The 2014 vintage marked the third year of the California drought. Warm and dry conditions resulted in the earliest harvest start date, August 1, in the history of Talley Vineyards. At 9 inches, total rainfall was less than 50% of the average for Coastal San Luis Obispo County. Ideal growing conditions during bloom time in the spring afforded excellent fruit set with very little mildew or botrytis pressure during the remainder of the season. The wines produced in 2014 share many of the characteristics that made the 2012 and 2013 vintages so appealing:  charm, elegance and balance.
