Talley Vineyards

2014 Rosemary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir

2014 Rosemary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean and surrounding Rosemary Talley’s home, Rosemary’s Vineyard is the coolest site at Talley Vineyards and produces exceptional pinot noir with bright flavors, firm structure and refreshing energy. Light garnet in hue, the 2014 vintage of Rosemary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir is true to character and expresses aromas of black cherry and plum. A sweet attack leads to mid-palate richness that finishes with a subtle touch of spice and refreshing minerality. Enjoy with beef carpaccio or roasted quail.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker, August 2016. The 2014 Pinot Noir Rosemary's Vineyard is a richer, layered effort that has a touch more oomph than the Rincon release. Passion fruits, raspberries, violets and spice all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, rich and layered Pinot Noir that has fine tannin, beautiful purity and an already hard to resist style. Aged 16 months in 35% new French oak, drink it anytime through 2024.

Vinous, September 2016. Brilliant ruby-red. A drop-dead, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, incense, candied flowers and star anise, accompanied by a smoky mineral overlay. Sweet, animated and precise on the palate, offering intense raspberry, cherry and spicecake flavors given lift and spine by juicy acidity. Powerful yet lithe, displaying outstanding finishing energy and silky, even tannins that build steadily and in harmony with the vibrant fruit.

California Grapevine, Jaunary 2017. Medium ruby; attractive, forward, deep, ripe, intense, black cherry fruit aroma with a note of toasty oak and hints of baking spices; medium-full body; tight, herbal, dark cherry and red berry fruit flavors with earthy notes, bright acidity, and tending to be a bit hard on the finish; medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Needs a few more years of aging. Very highly recommended.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The 2014 vintage marked the third year of the California drought. Warm and dry conditions resulted in the earliest harvest start date, August 1, in the history of Talley Vineyards. At 9 inches, total rainfall was less than 50% of the average for Coastal San Luis Obispo County. Ideal growing conditions during bloom time in the spring afforded excellent fruit set with very little mildew or botrytis pressure during the remainder of the season. The wines produced in 2014 share many of the characteristics that made the 2012 and 2013 vintages so appealing: charm, elegance and balance.

Year after year the best, great fruit and balance with a 45 sec finish. For the price you cannot beat Talley Rosemary's Pinot and Chardonnay.
