2014 Talley Vineyards Estate Chardonnay
Soft gold in color, the 2014 Estate Chardonnay is a beautiful expression of the character and style of the Arroyo Grande Valley. On the nose, vibrant aromas of pear and stone fruits are followed by a hint of subtle toasted oak. The palate is soft and plush with delicate acidity. Notes of peach, lemon oil, baked brioche and slivered almonds are complemented by minerality true to the Arroyo Grande Valley. Enjoy this classic chardonnay with light seafood fare, such as steamed mussels or Dungeness crab.
Wine Enthusiast, October 2016. Daffodils, lemon rinds and yellow apples rise on the nose of this bottling like a delicate flower petal. The palate is also finely toned, light in style and easy to enjoy, with hints of limestone, sea salt, Meyer lemon and Gravenstein apple.
Vinous, September 2016. Pale gold. A lively, incisive bouquet evokes citrus and orchard fruits and white flowers, and an iodine nuance emerges as the wine opens up. Shows excellent clarity and depth to the fresh orange, pear and candied ginger flavors, which open up steadily with air. Smoothly combines power and vivacity and finishes very long and taut, with resonating mineral and floral notes.
California Grapevine, August 2016. Medium-light golden yellow; fragrant spicy, pear green apple aroma with a hint of brioche; medium to medium-full body; bright, lemony, green apple flavors with crisp acidity; lingering aftertaste. Very highly recommended. 13.4% alcohol; 100% Chardonnay; 100% BF; 100% ML; released August 2016. (Group Score: 16.2, 0/3/0; My Score:17 [90/100], second place)
Robert Parker, August 2016. The 2014 Chardonnay Estate, which is from the Arroyo Grande Valley, is outstanding. Notes of white flowers, white peach and saline-like characteristics all emerge from the medium-bodied, chiseled, clean and beautifully precise Chardonnay. Mostly from the Rincon Vineyard, with smaller portions from Rosemary's and Monet Sereno, aged nine months in 23% new French oak, drink it over the coming 2-4 years.
