Talley Vineyards

2014 Bishop's Peak Pinot Noir

2014 Bishop's Peak Pinot Noir

Ruby red in color, the 2014 Bishop's Peak Pinot Noir expresses classic aromas of strawberry and bright cherry complemented by a touch of light oak.  On the palate, this elegant and well-balanced wine has notes of vibrant red fruit with hints of earth.  Crisp acidity and medium tannin lead to a lingering finish.  Enjoy this pinot noir with wild mushroom flatbread or braised pork tacos.

Professional Reviews

Vinous, September 2016.  Translucent red. High-pitched red berry, cherry and rose pastille scents are lifted by blood orange and mineral nuances. Silky, weightless and focused on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become deeper and sweeter with air. Shows impressive depth of flavor but comes off lithe, even delicate. Clings with serious tenacity on the gently tannic finish, which strongly echoes the red fruit and floral notes.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The 2014 vintage marked the third year of the California drought. Warm and dry conditions resulted in the earliest harvest start date, August 1, in the history of Talley Vineyards. At 9 inches, total rainfall was less than 50% of the average for Coastal San Luis Obispo County. Ideal growing conditions during bloom time in the spring afforded excellent fruit set with very little mildew or botrytis pressure during the remainder of the season. The wines produced in 2014 share many of the characteristics that made the 2012 and 2013 vintages so appealing: charm, elegance and balance.

We are from Oregon, which is known for it's Pinot Noirs. This one is, to us superior to any that we have tasted here in a similar price range. We especially like the fact that it is more spicy and less fruity than many of the other Pinots. In all, an excellent every day wine and a very good dinner party choice. Also, you could not enjoy a better wine for one of those long and lovely alfresco Summer lunches.

I agree with Dena -- it's the perfect wine! It blends well with everything. Great starter wine for a party and you can then work your way to a more full body as you like. Your family and guest will have a great time of wine and friends!
