Employee Spotlight: Emma Lyon

We’ve had no shortage of Cal Poly SLO Alums here at Talley Vineyards and recently we were able to add another to the club.  Joining the production team is Emma Lyon, one of our newest production assistants.  Emma is fresh out of Cal Poly’s Wine & Viticulture program having graduated just last month.  We are excited to have her here at Talley Vineyards and are looking forward to a great 2018 harvest.

I’ve asked Emma some ice-breaker questions so that you can all get to know her a little bit better.

Where are you from originally and what brought you to the Central Coast?

  • I was born and raised in Walnut Creek, CA.  I came down to the SLO Coast to attend Cal Poly’s Wine & Viticulture program.

What experience really solidified that you wanted to have a career in the wine industry?

  • I loved my time working at Claiborne & Churchill winery in Edna Valley for the past 2 years—both in the tasting room and helping in the cellar for their 2017 harvest.

What’s your favorite part about Harvest?

  • Endless punch-downs…just kidding!  You do get in really good shape though. I love the hustle of harvest and I really like doing lab work.

What’s your least favorite part about Harvest?

  • The bee stings

What are you most excited for this summer?

  • Boating on lake Nacimiento with friends

How do you like to spend your free time outside of work?

  • Hanging out with friends either at the beach or at a happy hour.

Speaking of happy hours, what’s your favorite happy hour drink?

  • Can’t beat a Moscow Mule

What would you say is your spirit animal?

  • A Dolphin—I love the water.

If you could eat anything in the world right now, what would it be?

  • Ahi Nachos with avocado.

What’s something on your bucket list?

  • To travel as much as I can.
