Talley Vineyards Wines
Talley Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery that specializes in estate grown chardonnay and pinot noir ideally suited for the climate and soils of the Arroyo Grande and Edna Valleys. With a commitment to long term sustainability and a Burgundian winemaking approach, Talley Vineyards focuses on attention to detail in all aspects of farming and winemaking operations. The goal is to produce distinctive wines of consistently high quality that best express the unique character of each of the Talley family’s six vineyard sites in the two valleys.
Bishop's Peak Wines
Bishop’s Peak wines are handcrafted by Talley Vineyards to capture the varietal and regional diversity of San Luis Obispo County. Bishop’s Peak, an iconic local landmark, was chosen as the symbol for the brand, showcasing wines that are produced in small lots from vineyard sites in the Arroyo Grande Valley, Edna Valley, and Paso Robles Viticultural Areas as well as the Nipomo area south of Arroyo Grande. Some of these sites are owned by the Talley family while others are owned by growers who share the family’s commitment to quality. The wines balance production and quality to deliver exceptional value, while maintaining the same attention to detail that is the hallmark of Talley Vineyards.
Talley Vineyards History
For three generations the Talley family has farmed in Coastal San Luis Obispo County. The tradition began in 1948 when Oliver Talley founded Talley Farms and started growing specialty vegetables in the Arroyo Grande Valley. After observation and extensive analysis, Oliver's son, Don Talley, was convinced of the potential to grow high quality chardonnay and pinot noir on the steep hillsides above Talley Farms. Don planted a small test plot in 1982 on the west hillside of the Rincon Vineyard, and over time refined the varietal and clonal selections and expanded planting to a total of six vineyard sites in the Arroyo Grande and Edna Valleys.
Talley Vineyards was founded by Don and Rosemary Talley in 1986 when they produced 450 cases. In the fall of 1991, a state-of-the-art winery was completed at the foot of the Rincon Vineyard, followed by a new tasting room in 2002. Talley Vineyards currently produces about 36,000 cases annually.
