Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
89 Points. Connoisseurs' Guide, Aug 2011. 85% Rincon Vineyard; 15% Rosemary’s Vineyard. Much in the manner of its cellarmates, this solid and still nervy wine is a bit stiff in feel. It displays a good measure of very young, tightly structured fruit and smacks here and there of apples, lemons and toasty spice. It earns recom-mendation by dint of its structure and depth rather than by accessibility and outgoing fruit, but it is a Chardonnay that is built for aging and will certainly improve if given the chance.

88 Points. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, #196. The 2009 Chardonnay Estate comes across as quite delicate and feminine in this vintage. It shows good length if not quite the complexity of the best years and looks to be a relatively early drinker. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.

91 Points. Wine Enthusiast. 10/1/2011. Shows the complexity of Talley’s single vineyard Chards, with vibrant acidity ac-companying tangerine, orange, lime and mineral flavors, enhanced with sweet smoky oak. Brilliant acidity makes it compelling. — S.H.

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Bright yellow. Aromas of quince, yellow plum and fresh fig. The palate offers an array of orchard and pit fruit flavors lifted by a zesty note of bitter lemon zest. A spicy quality gains strength with air and carries through the taut, linear finish. This energetic wine has the depth to work with rich foods and the cut to accompany lighter fare.
Vineyard Notes
The 2009 year began with a cold winter which led to some frost damage. Bud break was very even and the remainder of the year was marked by mild temperatures and healthy, even vine growth. An intense heat wave occurred in early September causing many grapes to ripen simultaneously. The harvest in the Arroyo Grande Valley was slightly larger than average and the quality of the fruit was exceptional with concentrated, intense flavors.
