Tropical fresh fruit aromas and a hint of buttered biscuit set the stage for a rich and complex palate to follow. Flavors of white peach and Meyer lemon are balanced by a chalky minerality and supple texture. Flavors of vanilla and toast linger with the creamy finish. This wine pairs well with sautéed scallops and roasted chicken.

92 Points. Robert Parker, August 2012. The 2010 Chardonnay Rincon Vineyard is one of the richer, bolder wines in this lineup. The Rincon is made from two parcels; one planted with the Wente clone, the other with Clone 4, but it is the weight and sheer power of the Wente that comes through most. Dried pears, butter, spices and layers of voluptuous fruit mark the creamy, textured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.

94 Points. Stephen Tanzer. Nov/Dec 2012. Light green-gold. Pungent aromas of pear skin, orange, smoky lees and iodine, plus a suave floral overtone. Sappy orchard fruit flavors show serious depth and power, with tangy minerality adding lift. Completely stains the palate and finishes on intense mineral, floral and orchard fruit notes, with superb length and lingering smokiness.

91 Points. Wine Spectator, February 2013. Fresh and vibrant, with ripe, snappy pear, honeysuckle, melon and lemon peel. A touch coarse, but deep and persistent. Sure to flesh out with time. Drink now through 2019.—J.L.

Vineyard Notes

The 2010 year began with average rainfall followed by a very warm spring which enhanced fruit set. The summer and fall months were the coolest on record leading to an exceptionally long growing season. A six day heat spell in mid-September finished the ripening. Yields in the Arroyo Grande Valley were average and the grapes had lower sugar levels and perfectly developed flavors.
