Ruby in color, this wine boasts sweet aromas of cranberry and licorice with hints of forest floor, wet slate and leather. The mid-palate is silky in texture with flavors of black plum and bright mineral that finish long with soft, lingering tannins. Try the 2011 Rincon Vineyard Pinot Noir with savory braised short ribs or lamb chops.

93 Points. Venous, by Antonio Galloni, July 31, 2013. Savory herbs, licorice, graphite and dark red fruit all emerge from the 2011 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard. These clay-rich soils yield a powerful wine loaded with pure structure and muscle. I would give the 2011 another year or two in bottle to meld together, but it is impressive, even today. The 30% whole clusters are nicely integrated in this classy, impeccable wine. Stylistically, the Rincon Vineyard is a bit more overt and fruit-driven than the East Rincon Vineyard in this vintage. It will be interesting to see if that difference holds across future vintages as well, or if it is more a factor of the 2011 vintage itself.

California Grapevine, November 2013.Medium-light to medium ruby; attractive, deep, intense, spicy, raspberry and dark cherry fruit aroma with notes of toasty new oak; medium-full body; rich, textured, cedary, firmly structured, red fruit flavors with good depth and bright acidity; medium to medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Deserves a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; 450 cases; 100% Pinot Noir; released Fall 2013. (Group Score: 16.2, 0/0/4; My Score: 17 [90/100], third place)

Bright ruby.  Black raspberry, cherry, woodsmoke and rose oil on the seductively perfumed nose.  Fleshy and expansive, offering polished red and dark berry flavors and a suave note of candied flowers.  Picks up spiciness and weight with air and finishes on a juicy red berry note, with very good thrust, length and harmonious tannins.
Vineyard Notes
The 2011 year began with above average rainfall in Southern San Luis Obispo County. Though we were spared the late spring frost that affected other areas, fruit set was reduced by wet spring conditions and yields were about 30% below average. One of the coolest summers on record resulted in long hang time and grapes with high natural acidity. The resulting wines balance refreshing acidity with concentrated flavors due to the low yields.
