This pinot noir has a complex bouquet of raspberry, mission fig, and clove with layers of smoke and spice. This full bodied wine is layered with flavors of ripe black fruit and earth that finish soft with plush tannins and balanced acidity. It complements lamb dishes and wild mushroom risotto.
Wine Profile
89 Points. Vinous, by Antonio Galloni, July 31, 2013. The 2011 Pinot Noir (Edna Valley) is beautiful and intense in the glass. Smoke, tobacco, licorice and cedar are some of the notes that flesh out in this surprisingly rich, Chardonnay. The low yields of the year contribute to the wine's implosive, muscular personality. Deceptively medium in body, the 2011 packs a serious punch. This is a very serious wine for the money.

91 Points. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Oct/Nov 2013. (made from fruit grown in the Stone Corral vineyard):  Bright ruby.  Black raspberry, cherry and musky beetroot on the pungent nose.  Fleshy and expansive, offering deep red and dark berry flavors and a hint of candied rose.  Picks up spiciness with air and finishes on a smoky note, with very good thrust and length.  This pinot has the heft to handle richer foods.
Vineyard Notes
The 2011 year began with average rainfall followed by a very warm spring, which enhanced fruit set. The summer and fall months were the coolest on record leading to an exceptionally long growing season. A six day heat spell in mid September finished the ripening. Yields in the Edna Valley were average and the grapes had lower sugar levels and perfectly developed flavors.
