This wine balances an earthy bouquet layered with sweet notes of blackberry, and dusty chocolate with hints of slate and vanilla bean. The mid-palate is velvety in texture with flavors of red fruit, mineral, and a distinct earthiness that express the masculine attributes of the Rincon Vineyard. This pinot noir pairs nicely with hearty meat dishes like braised short ribs and rack of lamb.
Wine Profile
Ratings
93 Points. Wine Advocate, Antonio Galloni, Issue 196, 8/31/13. The 2010 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard floats onto the palate. Sweet dried cherries, flowers, mint and savory herbs are some of the many nuances that take shape in the glass. The use of 30% whole clusters gives the wine an attractive sense of lift and polish. Sweet, perfumed and impeccably balanced, the Rincon impresses for its overall harmony and finesse. In 2010, the Rincon is delicate and harmonious from the very first taste. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.

94 Points. Steve Tanzer (Josh Raynolds) issue 165, Nov/Dec 2012. "Deep red. Ripe raspberry and cherry on the intensely perfumed nose. Lush and expansive on the palate, offering densely packed yet lively red fruit compote and floral flavors that become brighter and spicier with air. The spicy quality carries through a very long, clinging finish, which shows a seamless, sappy character. Quite elegant but highly concentrated as well; I'd bet on this pinot rewarding at least a decade of cellaring."

90 Points. California Grapevine. Medium-light to medium ruby; attractive, cranberry and red cherry fruit aroma with hints of clove and minerals; medium to medium-full body; rich, textured, earthy, cherry fruit flavors with firm acidity and a velvety mouthfeel; medium to medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Appealing to taste now, though deserving a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended.

93 Points. Wine Spectator Insider, Feb. 2013. "The most complete and harmonious of the 2010 Talleys, this is a rich, full-bodied and smooth-textured mix of spicy raspberry, wild berry and blueberry, gaining depth and maintaining persistence."

94 Points. Wine Enthusiast Magazine, March 2013. Online Only. This shows how a wine can be both immediately delicious and drinkable, yet possess that extra stuffing to make it complex and ageable. It offers generous raspberry, cherry, chocolate, vanilla and spice flavors, balanced with gorgeous acidity and a hint of dusty tannins. Drink now–2018.
Vineyard Notes
The 2010 year began with average rainfall followed by a very warm spring which enhanced fruit set. The summer and fall months were the coolest on record leading to an exceptionally long growing season. A six day heat spell in mid-September finished the ripening. Yields in the Arroyo Grande Valley were average and the grapes had lower sugar levels and perfectly developed flavors.
Winemaker Notes
Fermented with native yeasts in open top fermenters
