Dark ruby in color, this wine balances rich aromas of boysenberry, vanilla and rose hips with hints of white pepper and mineral. On the palate there are delicate flavors of cranberry, light herbs and chalky minerals characteristic of the site. This full bodied wine has a velvety texture that finishes with elegant, graceful tannins. The 2011 Rosemary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir pairs well with a pan seared duck breast.
Wine Profile
94 Points. Venous, by Antonio Galloni, July 31, 2013. Another impressive wine, the 2011 Pinot Noir Rosemary's Vineyard is a standout. From an own-rooted parcel planted in 1987, the Rosemary's is laced with beautifully focused aromatics, delineated fruit and fabulous overall balance. Cranberries, rose petals, crushed flowers and spices are all layered into the crystalline, pointed finish. A wine of rare distinction, the 2011 should also offer a broad window of prime drinking to age 10-12, perhaps longer.

90 Points. California Grapevine, November, 2013. Medium-light to medium ruby; attractive, fragrant, deep, spicy, red berry and cherry fruit aroma with herbal notes; medium-full body; rich, textured, firmly structured, dark cherry fruit flavors with good depth and bright acidity; medium to medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Deserves a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; 444 cases; 100% Pinot Noir; released Fall 2013. (Group Score: 16.0, 0/2/0; My Score:17 [90/100], second place)

93 Points. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Oct/Nov 2013. Vivid ruby-red.  Lively red berries and cherry on the intensely perfumed nose, with notes of pungent flowers, Asian spices and blood orange adding complexity.  Bright, racy strawberry and raspberry flavors give way to a deeper bitter cherry quality in the mid-palate, with a tangy citrus pith quality adding lift.  The penetrating, gently tannic finish is alluringly sweet and floral, leaving a hint of smoky minerality behind, eventually.
Vineyard Notes
The 2011 year began with above average rainfall in Southern San Luis Obispo County. Though we were spared the late spring frost that affected other areas, fruit set was reduced by wet spring conditions and yields were about 30% below average. One of the coolest summers on record resulted in long hang time and grapes with high natural acidity. The resulting wines balance refreshing acidity with concentrated flavors due to the low yields.
