Fund for Vineyard and Farm Workers
Supporting Community Need
2013 Artist Label Contest Guidelines
The next time you enjoy locally produced wine or fresh fruits and vegetables, take a moment to appreciate the people who brought this bounty to your table. In San Luis Obispo County, we rely on thousands of workers to plant, care for and harvest the fruits, vegetables and wine grapes grown here.
The Fund for Vineyard and Farm Workers was established in 2004 by Brian and Johnine Talley to provide grants to organizations that assist San Luis Obispo County agricultural workers and their families. The goal is to establish an endowment of $1 million so that this support can continue in perpetuity. Beneficiaries are 501(c)3 non profit organizations and past recipients have included Clinica de Tolosa, Raising a Reader, the Children’s Health Initiative, the South County Boys and Girls Club, and the San Luis Obispo County Literacy Council.
The key fundraising effort for The Fund for Vineyard and Farm Workers is the annual release of Mano Tinta. Mano Tinta ("Red Hand" in Spanish) was chosen to signify the pride and commitment of farm workers to their craft. All of the grapes, materials and services used to make Mano Tinta wines are donated and all of the profit benefits The Fund for Vineyard and Farm Workers. Sinor LaValle Vineyards, Ranchita Canyon Vineyards, Wolff Vineyards, Laetitia Vineyard and Winery and Talley Vineyards are only a partial list of vineyards who have contributed over the years in an effort that has raised nearly $300,000 for the Fund. Growers and vintners from across San Luis Obispo County are encouraged to become involved with the Mano Tinta project, either by donating grapes or by producing their own Mano Tinta wine. For more information, please contact Talley Vineyards Winemaker Eric Johnson, eric@talleyvineyards.com. To date, the following Mano Tinta wines have been released:
