Mano Tinta Label & Design Competition

Artwork Submissions Now Being Accepted
Artists and students are encouraged to enter the Mano Tinta Label Design competition, which is open now through July 31, 2009. Submissions will be displayed at Talley Vineyards throughout August 2009 ("Mano Tinta Month") and the winning submission will be announced in early September The artwork selected will become part of the 2007 Mano Tinta wine label.

History of Mano Tinta
Mano Tinta, "Red Hand" in Spanish, is a robust red wine dedicated to the pride and commitment of farm workers to their craft. All of the grapes, materials, and services used to produce this wine are generously donated year after year. The proceeds from the sale of Mano Tinta wine benefits The Fund for Vineyard and Farm Workers, an endowment created by Brian and Johnine Talley to support organizations that help farm workers and their families throughout San Luis Obispo County.

The Wine Label
The artwork for the first two vintages of Mano Tinta Syrah (2004 and 2005) featured an original landscape of hills and vineyards painted by Jose Juan Rico, age 9, a local elementary school student and the son of a Talley Farms employee. The label created to frame this artwork was designed by Shirley Howell of San Luis Obispo (see photo, above).

The Design Competition
In 2008 a revolving artist competition was introduced for the Mano Tinta wine label to encourage community involvement and to signify the evolving blend of this wine from year to year. The goal of the label design competition was to find an innovative and meaningful picture or painting to be featured on the 2006 Mano Tinta wine label.
 
The winner of the first Mano Tinta Label Design Competition was Candace Kincaid of Nipomo, California (San Luis Obispo County). Candace's colorful painting of a vineyard worker with a bountiful harvest was showcased on the 2006 Mano Tinta label (at right). Many thanks to Candace Kincade and all of the artists who submitted works for this competition.
